CALLED: Remnant or Laodicea book cover by V.C. Salmon
“If Ellen White, James White, Joseph Bates, and the founders of this movement walked into the average Seventh-day Adventist church today — would they recognize what they saw?

The Central Question

Not just the architecture. Not just the technology. But the worship. The preaching. The health practices. The educational philosophy. The outreach strategy. The prayer life. The prophetic urgency.

The Book at a Glance

An eight-chapter prophetic diagnosis for the twenty-first century. Rooted entirely in the King James Bible and the writings of Ellen G. White — fully sourced, chapter by chapter.

The drift is real — the drift from prophetic urgency. The drift from health reform. The drift from true education. The drift from the country living counsel. The drift from the kind of worship that brought heaven near. The drift from the outreach model that built a worldwide movement in a single generation.

CALLED does not soften this diagnosis. But it does not leave the reader in despair. Every chapter that names the problem also charts the path back.

“Jeremiah 6:16 is still in the Bible. The question is whether we are willing to walk in them.”

About the Author

V.C. Salmon

V.C. Salmon is the founder of Are You Praying Ministries, a prayer and discipleship organization committed to biblical revival and prophetic education. A lifelong student of the Seventh-day Adventist heritage, he has spent years studying the writings of Ellen G. White, the prophetic foundations of the Adventist movement, and the growing distance between what this church was called to be and what it has become.

CALLED: Remnant or Laodicea is his most direct and comprehensive work to date. He writes not as a critic from the outside but as a son of the movement who loves it too much to stay silent.

Chapter by Chapter

Nine movements — an introduction and eight chapters — each naming a specific drift, and each charting the path back to the ancient paths.

00

Introduction

Why This Book Was Written and Who It Is For

This is not a book written to attack the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It was written because of a deep and unshakeable love for it. The introduction frames the purpose clearly: this is a mirror, not a weapon. And mirrors, though uncomfortable, are the first step toward change.

01

Chapter One

A People Called Out — The Adventist Identity in Prophetic Focus

What does it mean to be the remnant church? Chapter 1 goes back to the beginning — the Great Controversy backdrop, Israel's pattern of compromise, the gold standard set by Daniel, and the specific calling of Seventh-day Adventists in the age of Babylon.

02

Chapter Two

Worship and Church Services — The House of God or the House of Entertainment?

Drawing directly from Ellen White's counsel on music, reverence, and the sanctuary as the blueprint for worship, this chapter examines how far the average Adventist worship service has drifted from the early camp meeting spirit.

03

Chapter Three

Education and Training — Restoring the Ancient Pattern

Jesus trained twelve men in a three-and-a-half-year apprenticeship that changed the world. Chapter 3 contrasts that model with today's seminary and academic training structures, and equips parents and congregations with practical steps.

04

Chapter Four

Health Ministry — Restoring the Right Arm of the Gospel

Ellen White called health ministry the right arm of the gospel. Chapter 4 traces the full arc — from the original sanitarium model and the eight laws of health, through the lifestyle disease epidemic, to the call to restore health ministry as gospel work.

05

Chapter Five

Country Living — A Prophetic Command, Not a Suggestion

This is perhaps the most urgent chapter in the book. From Enoch to Abraham to Lot — scripture is consistent: God has always called His people out of the cities. Ellen White's counsel on country living runs through five specific areas.

06

Chapter Six

Outreach and Evangelism — Taking the Three Angels' Messages to the Streets

The Loud Cry is coming. Are we prepared to deliver it? Chapter 6 examines Christ's ministry model — going where the people are — alongside the New Testament house-to-house pattern, literature evangelism, and health evangelism.

07

Chapter Seven

The Call to Awaken — The Ten Virgins and the Flow of the Holy Spirit

Five were ready. Five were not. And the door closed. Chapter 7 unpacks the Ten Virgins alongside Zechariah 4's seven-layer flow of the Holy Spirit — and asks: is the oil flowing in your life? In your church?

08

Chapter Eight

The Shaking Has Begun — Will You Stand?

The final chapter brings everything together. The Laodicean diagnosis. Isaiah 58 as the blueprint for the reformation God is calling for. The prayer that precedes the Loud Cry. And a final appeal.
